The Great American Pub, with locations in Conshohocken, Wayne, and Phoenixville, is a popular spot for families to go for an affordable meal or to have a drink and watch the game, writes Ana Welsh for Main Line Tonight.

The secret to its success the owners say is a commitment to family and community.

The late Charles W. Hemcher Sr. had been in the restaurant business a while before he opened the first Great American Pub in Conshohocken in 1990, but the pub quickly became his passion project.

He had a dream of an affordable, cozy pub filled with vintage decor that would embrace the quickly growing community.

His eldest son Chuck W. Hemcher, Jr., who is co-owner of the Conshohocken location, said their father taught them not only about business but about how to be a good human being.

“My dad taught us to work hard, be kind to others, and enjoy life,” he said.

The focus of the Great American Pub remains “affordable, good food and lively entertainment,” explained Tom Hemcher, one of the brothers who co-owns the Wayne pub.

Besides building a close relationship with the customers and employees, the Hemcher family also prizes the family bond.
