Charisse McGill and her daughter, Madison — the Montgomery County–centric entrepreneurial duo behind the mega-popular snack food French Toast Bites — appeared on the pre-Mother’s Day broadcast of the Today show on NBC. Michael Klein reported their interview in The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The businesswomen were selected to highlight their collaboration on Philadelphia snack-food business, Lokal Artisan Foods.

The food-service business has numerous local roots.

McGill first started considering a business launch while employed at Valley Forge Military Academy, while she organized the Lansdale Farmers’ Market on the side. She was inspired by vendors there and forged her own brand, a snack line of finger-friendly French toast hunks.

The business succeeded to the point where McGill could quit her job (in 2018) and found Lokal Artisan Foods to supply her product.

Daughter Madison — who earned a tidy sum selling lemonade, also at the Lansdale Farmers’ Market — was her investor.

The duo started bottling the French toast spice and introduced it as a line extension in 2019. They then opened a stand (the first of many) at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets in Limerick.

Throughout it all, McGill taught entrepreneurship classes at Montgomery County Community College.
