Bryn Athyn is home to Bryn Athyn Cathedral, Bryn Athyn College, and Glencairn Museum, all of which are centered on the General Church of the New Jerusalem.

Bryn Athyn, measuring only 1.93 square miles, is a petite, picturesque borough in Montgomery County with plenty to offer visitors and residents alike, writes Melissa Jacobs for the Main Line Tonight.

Bryn Athyn is home to Bryn Athyn Cathedral, Bryn Athyn College, and Glencairn Museum, all centered on the General Church of the New Jerusalem. The religion, also called the New Church, is based on Swedenborgian Christianity.

“Swedenborg had visions showing him what heaven was really like – and hell,” said Ivy, a Bryn Athyn College student who leads tours of Glencairn.

She added that members of the New Church have a unique way of reading the Bible.

“It contains an infinite amount of internal wisdom with many-layered meanings,” Ivy said.

Glencairn Museum, located in the town’s castle, offers visitors tours, exhibits, and special events throughout the year.

The tour of the Gothic-style castle includes a visit to the top of the tower that provides a nearly 360-degree view of Bryn Athyn.
