St Joseph’s Sophomore Laura Ziegler, Reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of Year, Has Big Plans for New Season
Laura Ziegler, a St. Joseph University sophomore and the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, has big plans for this season, writes Mia Messina for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
According to St. Joseph’s head coach Cindy Griffin, the forward from Denmark fully understands the balance she needs to achieve between team and personal goals.
“She came in here last year and wanted to be rookie of the year,” said Griffin. “She earned that. This year, she wants to be noted as one of the top players in our conference, and in order to do that, our team has to do well.”
With 107 rebounds, Ziegler leads both the team and the A-10. She is averaging a double-double with 12.3 points and 10.7 rebounds. In scoring this season for the Hawks, she is only behind juniors Talya Brugler and Mackenzie Smith.
“Laura has become very influential in her leadership style,” said Griffin. “She brings energy, effort, and enthusiasm every day. She wants to improve her skill set, both from the perimeter and from the post areas as well.”
