Lower Merion is getting closer to starting renovations on Ardmore’s Schaeuffele Plaza, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for Main Line Media News.

At a recent township finance committee, Lower Merion’s commissioners recommended Omnes, a professional services contract company, to design a civic space at Schauffele Plaza and the adjacent parking lot number 6.

The area is right off Lancaster Avenue between Rittenhouse Place and Cricket Avenue and is occasionally used for community events. The parking area includes 72 spaces.

The renovation project was inspired by the recently completed Ardmore Master Plan which indicated a need for more open spaces for community gatherings.

“The [Ardmore] Master Plan acknowledges that with its location in the heart of downtown Ardmore, Schauffele Plaza & Lot 6,  ‘provides a unique opportunity to be reimagined as a much-needed public space that can be enjoyed by residents, visitors, and businesses to increase the vibrancy of Ardmore and make visiting the space a meaningful experience for all,” a staff memo to the commissioners said.

Lower Merion officials said that there will be a public process for residents to raise any concerns they might have on the project, including how it will impact parking in the area.
