While not fully recovered from the impact of COVID-19 these last few years, Philadelphia International Airport reports a promising upward trajectory, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

This Thanksgiving the international airport recorded its busiest Thanksgiving travel period since the virus shut down the country.

Transportation Security Administration data shows that 42,616 people traveled through TSA checkpoints at the Philadelphia International Airport on Sunday, November 26.

Before the start of the holiday, PHL had projected that on Sunday it would see 92,474 passengers either flying from or flying into Philadelphia.

The TSA data only includes passengers who directly flew out of Philadelphia, not those who flew into the city or those making connecting flights.

For the whole travel period between Friday, November 17 and Tuesday, November 28, PHL projected that 904,900 departing and arriving passengers would come through the airport.

PHL has not released total passenger numbers yet, but an airport representative called it the busiest Thanksgiving period since the pandemic.

Atif Saeed, PHL CEO, had said in a previous interview that the airport expected to fully recover to pre-pandemic levels by 2026.
