The rankings were based on C-section rates, breast milk feeding rates, early elective delivery rates and other measures.

Two Montgomery County hospitals earned “high performing status” from U.S. News & World Report for maternity care, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Overall, 11 Philadelphia-area hospitals had high scores. U.S. News evaluated 680 hospitals nationwide focusing on the quality of labor and delivery services.

Only 18 local hospitals submitted data to U.S. News this year. Penn Medicine chose not to participate this year, calling the ranking “an outdated view” of evaluating health care.

The 11 local hospitals to receive high-performing status included Jefferson Health’s Abington Hospital and Einstein Medical Center Montgomery.

While Main Line Health’s Paoli and Riddle hospitals earned high-performing status, Main Line Health’s Lankenau Medical Center and Bryn Mawr Hospital did not.

The rankings were based on C-section rates, breast milk feeding rates, early elective delivery rates, and other measures.

Jennifer Winston, a U.S. News health data scientist said that the hospitals that receive a high-performance designation “meet a high standard in caring for parents with uncomplicated pregnancies.”
