Nativity Scenes on Display at Bryn Athyn Cathedral and Glencairn Museum
Bryn Athyn Cathedral is showcasing three Nativity scenes in the choir hall for the holidays, according to a staff report from Glenside Local.
All three scenes were created during the 1920s by Bryn Athyn artist Winfred S. Hyatt for the Raymond Pitcairn family. Each December, the nativity scenes were displayed in front of the family’s fireplace in the parlor hall at Cairnwood.
The artists also supervised the design and construction of both the Bryn Athyn Cathedral and Glencairn, a home reminiscent of a castle that is now a museum.
The cathedral’s own nativity scene was created more recently, to celebrate the 2015 World Nativities Exposition at Glencairn Museum.
“The scene represents the architecture of the Bryn Athyn Community and the New Church of the Swedenborgs,” states Navidad Nativities.
“The center altar of the Bryn Athyn Cathedral is embraced by the Glencairn Castle with its outdoor Cloister to the left and the interior Upper Hall to the right.”
The Glencairn Museum is also currently displaying several nativity scenes from around the globe.
