In Perfect Harmony: Ringing Hills Chorus Celebrates Annual Concert in Pottstown

By

The Ringing Hills Chorus celebrated its annual concert this past weekend at Grace Lutheran Church in Pottstown, according to 6abc.

The group enjoys singing barbershop harmonies and practices every Tuesday night.

“We are a group of women who like to sing,” said Julie MacGregor.

MacGregor has been involved with the Ringing Hills Chorus for 25 years and director for the last three years.

The a cappella group is part of Sweet Adelines International which has about 2,000 members worldwide.

MacGregor explained that the group sings in 4-part harmony, with the leads singing the melody line, a tenor singing a secondary harmony above that, and basses and baritones coming in with another harmony.

Jan Denning, 91, is one of the original members of the Ringing Hills Chorus and is credited with giving the group its name. At the time, they practiced at a high school in Pottsgrove “at the bottom of ringing hills,” she said.
