After being acquired by the private equity firm Thoma Bravo, Atlanta-based NextGen Healthcare is laying off 65 employees from its Horsham office, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The layoffs were disclosed in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

NextGen is a software and services company specializing in electronic health records and practice management systems specifically for ambulatory care providers.

In the WARN notice, the company said the job cuts are the result of “staffing optimization efforts” undertaken in connection with its acquisition by Thoma Bravo.

The cuts will impact NextGen employees who “work at, are assigned to, report to, and/or are assigned work from” the company’s 795 Horsham Road site. The location will remain open.

The layoffs will start on January 16, with more cuts taking place on February 1 and March 1.

Thoma Bravo completed its purchase of NextGen for $1.8 billion on November 10. Shareholders received $23.95 in cash per NextGen share held.

NextGen has more than 100,000 ambulatory health care providers among its customers who care for over 65 million patients across the country.
