Fanatics CEO Expands Career Immersion Program for Pro Athletes
Bryn Mawr’s Michael Rubin, chief executive officer of Fanatics, is helping pro athletes consider possible career moves after they retire from the game, writes Natasha Dye for PEOPLE.
In partnership with the University of Southern California, he recently offered a newly expanded Athlete Immersion Program in Los Angeles for 11 WNBA and MLB athletes.
Fanatics has been doing similar programs over the last few years for NFL and NHL players, but this year’s immersion program has an enhanced curriculum.
He said the impetus for the program is his desire to show athletes how they can become entrepreneurs.
“I’d say, for a decade, there’s been a dream and a belief that I’ve had that it’s be our responsibility to help these great players figure out what’s next. Fanatics wouldn’t be here if it weren’t or the incredible talents of these athletes that we work with.”
During the program, pro players like the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Walker Buehler and Dallas Wings’ Diamond DeShields, learned all about brand strategy, marketing, sales, leadership, and management.
Rubin eventually hopes to offer a six-month co-op program for recently retired athletes.
