Live Like Royalty: A Castle-Like Gladwyne Estate Hits Market for $8.495 Million
A historic Gladwyne estate very reminiscent of old English castles is now on the market for $8.495 million, writes Ryan Mulligan for Philadelphia Business Journal.
The home was originally built for a member of the Montgomery Scott family and took 10 years, from 1895 to 1905, to be built.
In 1915 it was bought by James Crosby Brown, a member of the family of bankers who founded the Wall Street investment banking firm Brown Bros.
The Gothic revival home has six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and a guest cottage.
The structure was originally built as a carriage house for an adjacent mansion that is no longer a part of the property. After undergoing extensive updates throughout the years though, it is grand all on its own.
The second floor has four bedrooms with vaulted ceilings and ensuite bathrooms, including a primary suite with a living space.
On the first floor, there is a great hall with 25-foot ceilings that is perfect for hosting gatherings. The home is decorated with antique art. Many of the pieces have been imported from Europe.
Three terraces look out onto gardens as well.
“When you get there you feel like you’ve stepped into a castle in England,” said listing agent Franz Rabauer of Kurfiss Sotheby’s International Realty.
