Do you have jewelry you never wear anymore just collecting dust in your drawers? These pieces could be worth thousands of dollars, Main Line Today reports.

Steve Schiffman, owner of D. Atlas Estates in Haverford, is in the business of helping people discover unrealized assets like old engagement rings.

That money could be used for your child’s college fund or that cruise you have always wanted to take.

Schiffman has been buying and selling fine jewelry for almost fifty years. Even as a kid he had a good eye for it.

“My father owned a pawn shop in Philadelphia, and I spent a lot of time there as a kid. I loved sorting through the eclectic assortment of items in the shop and was particularly fascinated by the jewelry. I really fell in love with it at a young age,” he said.

His knowledge of the jewelry business grew as he traveled around the world. He soaked in as much as he could about the buying and selling of fine jewelry.

When he is looking for jewelry to buy, Schiffman says that he doesn’t just look to see if it is gold or silver. It is all about the uniqueness of the piece, he explained.
