Christina J. Visco, a Norristown native and a prominent entrepreneur who excelled in several fields, including retail, marketing, and cannabis, died on October 19 of breast cancer, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Visco, who lived in Wyndmoor, was known as the first woman who was awarded a medical marijuana license in Pennsylvania. She founded TerraVida Holistic Centers six years ago, opened her first dispensaries in 2018, and was at one point the dominant retailer of medical marijuana in the Keystone State.

She acquired distribution permits for several other states before selling her company in 2021. She remained with the new firm as an executive.

In her work, Visco was committed to assisting cannabis users. She opened education and registration centers close to her dispensaries and founded the VOWD Project – Victims of the War on Drugs, a nonprofit that aims to “improve the lives of those victimized by cannabis prohibition.”

“Chris would not begin a project without finishing it,” said her family in a tribute. “She was a giver. She was beyond generous and would give support or help to anyone.”
