The ban will cover bags and Styrofoam containers at all retail, restaurants, and point-of-sale locations.

As more people in the region become concerned about the impact of environmental waste, more townships are banning single use plastic, writes Justin Heinze for Patch.

The most recent ordinance was passed in Montgomery Township. It will go into effect on April 22, 2024.

The ban will cover bags and styrofoam containers at all retail, restaurants, and point-of-sale locations.

“Montgomery Township is actively taking steps toward reducing our environmental footprint and striving for a more sustainable community,” the township said.

Other Montgomery County townships that have passed bans include Upper Merion, Lower Merion, and Upper Moreland.

Across the state, 21 municipalities have passed bans.
