Developers recently gave Norristown officials a visualization of what a mixed-use development project would look like on Main Street, writes Rachel Ravina for Times Herald.

The property which is still in a conceptual phase is expected to include 140 affordable residential units and a 6,100 square foot commercial space on the first floor.

The price tag of such a project is about $31 million. The property which used to be home to a Rite Aid is located between Main and Lafayette streets.

“Our basic view on Norristown is everyone knows the rents went up,” said property owner James Anderson, causing “a real housing and cost issue.”

The one- and two-bedroom apartments will cost a “blended” $1,900 per month.

He said that they are hoping to attract “upwardly mobile single professionals.”

The new development is expected to also include a lobby, and package and fitness rooms.
