The American advertising executive, golfer, and sportswriter was a prolific writer and his favorite thing to write about was golf.

Finegan, a Villanova resident and graduate of La Salle University, wrote seven books about golf and “Blasted Heaths and Blessed Greens” was one of the most popular.

In it he recounts his travels to Scotland and the beautiful golf courses at Machrihanish and Brora.

Bamberg wrote that Finegan believed that if you could only make one overseas trip in your lifetime, it should be to Scotland. He had the knack for finding little known gems and describing his experiences there in eloquent words.

Other authors on the list included Percy Bloomer, John Updike, Michael Murphy, and George Plimpton.
