A Freedom Village Alzheimer’s Walk that took place Friday, Oct. 6, raised $4,200.

Freedom Village at Brandywine is a premier Life Plan Community in West Brandywine.

The Walk supported the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.

It is held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide.

The event at Freedom Village is unique because it is the second year it has hosted the Walk on its campus, allowing all residents and staff of the community the ability to participate, even those in wheelchairs or who need a walker or device for assistance.

The Freedom Village Alzheimer’s Walk went around the perimeter of the community with various snack stations located throughout the walk and was followed by a live music performance on campus.

“This event is not only a great way to support the Alzheimer’s Association, but it also brings our community together to raise awareness and funds for a cause that is close to our hearts,” said Danielle Geyer, executive director of Freedom Village at Brandywine.

In addition to the walk, Freedom Village has been performing different fundraisers to raise money, including a homemade soup sale, a bananas foster sale, an ice cream social and sale, a 50/50 raffle, and a t-shirt sale.

They have also been running a “casual for a cause” campus event, which is held every Friday, where staff are allowed to pay $3 to be able to wear jeans to work. From those fundraisers, Freedom Village has already raised over $2,000, with a goal of raising $2,500.

Freedom Village at Brandywine is a life care retirement community in West Brandywine with a wide variety of residential options, a wealth of exceptional services and amenities, and a full calendar of fun, engaging activities—all just minutes from the many attractions, villages, and historic destinations of Chester County’s Brandywine Valley.

As a life care community, Freedom Village at Brandywine makes aging in place simple, where residents can seamlessly transition from independent living to personal care, memory care, and long-term care as health needs change.
