Lower Merion is working towards creating more affordable housing options in Ardmore, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for Main Line Media News.

The board of commissioners recently reviewed a plan for a 48-unit, four-story apartment building on Ardmore Avenue near School Lane.

The new building will be built behind Ardmore House, a 63-unit building that was designed to provide older adults affordable housing.

Back in 2010, the township had considered an addition to the Ardmore House, but the plan was dropped because of concerns over parking.

Township officials say that with the addition of developments like One Ardmore Place that is no longer a concern.

“We’ve been talking about affordable housing in this township for a long time, both as commissioners in our committees and with members of the public, and this is, I think, a significant project, a significant step, and if we can get to the finish line, which is several years away, it will be a significant and remarkable outcome,” Commissioner Scott Zelov said.
