Shapiro Administration’s Secretary of Legislative Affairs Has Resigned
The Shapiro Administration has announced that PA Secretary of Legislative Affairs Mike Vereb, has resigned, writes Ford Turner for Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Thomas Yablonski Jr., who is currently a senior adviser in the governor’s office, will step into the position.
No specific reason was given for his resignation except that he had completed his work setting up the Office of Legislative Affairs for the governor.
“Mike has spent decades serving our Commonwealth, including six years securing funding for law enforcement and enhancing school safety in the Office of Attorney General and the critical first year of our Administration,” Governor Shapiro’s chief of staff, Dana Fritz, said in a statement.
Vereb is a long-time associate of the governor, and he like Shapiro has ties to Montgomery County. He graduated from the Montgomery County Police Academy in 1986, was president of the West Norriton Board of Commissioners and was a member of the West Conshohocken Police Department.
A Republican, Vereb was elected in 2006 to the state House seat representing the 150th District and was re-elected four times. He also served as majority caucus secretary for House Republicans.
When Shapiro was elected state attorney general in 2016, he tapped Vereb to be his director of government affairs.
