Two popular Center City spots have found their place on Esquire magazine’s list of the best bars in America for 2023.

Andra Hem, which is Swedish for “second home,” will make you feel like you have stepped into a maximalist two-story townhouse with the walls painted in peacock blue and mustard, real and esoteric art, and a rather wild lichen-like wallpaper behind the bar.

The bar at the corner of 16th and Chancellor streets offers many amazing drinks like the famous Nothing Beets a Dala Horse, a beet-infused mezcal-and-horseradish number that is guaranteed to clear your sinuses.

The vibe of a Stockholm drinking den is highlighted by the various Scandinavian snacks, such as elegant potato pancakes along with a smorgas of jumbo prawns.

Meanwhile, Superfolie a few blocks south on 16th Street is a jewel box of a space in Rittenhouse Square that is always packed. The energy here is Frenchy, but not too much so.

It is a great place to start an adventurous night with a glass of bubbles and a fava bean tartine or grab a bottle of Cab Franc and some merguez sausage. Freezer martinis and mezcal are also highly recommended.
