A Montgomery County hospital is taking a top spot in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list for 2023-2024. Jefferson Abington Hospital ranked number 8 on the regional list for its urology department and gastroenterology & GI surgery.  

The report analyzes 4,500 medical centers in the U.S. to create these rankings, using federal data from Medicaid Services and the American Hospital Association, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.  

Last month, the University of Pennsylvania Health System decided to end its participation in the U.S. News & World Report rankings. According to the system’s leaders, the report does not capture the full scope of their “care everywhere” services, which include outpatient facilities, virtual platforms, and at-home care.  

Instead, Penn Medicine says it will work with other health systems across the country to come up with their own self-reported standards of quality care.  

Other nearby hospitals that made the list were Doylestown Hospital, Main Line Health-Paoli Hospital, Chester County Hospital in West Chester, and St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne.
