The former managing director of Safeguard Scientifics’ health care portfolio, Dr. Gary Kurtzman has created an app that aspires to be the “Waze to mental health,” writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

He established the Bryn Mawr company route because he saw the need for a user-facing mental health app that acted as a digital navigator.

The app is a text-based program that can help users with specific internal conflicts. Dr. Kurtzman said the company hopes to eventually combine the app with peer support and used alongside therapy.

Kurtzman, also the former managing director and chief operating officer at Radnor firm BioAdvance, said the company is talking with potential investors right now and plans on spending this year perfecting the program. A direct-to-consumer product launch is expected in 2024.
