Detroit native Jamila Robinson, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s assistant managing editor for food and culture, has been named the next editor-in-chief of the food magazine Bon Appétit, writes Katie Robertson for The New York Times.

Condé Nast, the publisher of Bon Appétit and other popular magazines such as Vogue and Vanity Fair, announced that Robinson would be in charge of the entire content and strategy for both the magazine and the recipe website Epicurious.

Prior to joining The Inquirer in 2020, Robinson worked as an editorial director at Atlantic Media. She has also worked at the USA Today Network, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and The Detroit Free Press.

Additionally, she served as chair of the James Beard Foundation’s Journalism Awards Committee and currently serves as chair of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants annual list.

Robinson said she was thrilled to accept her new role.

“For me, food is an art form that intersects with every part of life and connects communities,” said Robinson. “This role is an exciting new chapter in my commitment to building a longer table and showing the world that food culture is for everyone.”
