Hymie’s Deli in Merion is known for its unique take on matzo brei, a classic Passover cuisine that can be savory or sweet.

Jewish delis around the nation offer a wide range of popular food, including black and white cookies, bagels with lox, matzo ball soup, blintzes, and Reubens. Hymie’s Deli in Merion is known for its unique take on matzo brei, a classic Passover cuisine, writes Adrienne Katz Kennedy for TastingTable.

During the seven days, Jewish people abstain from eating leavened bread to commemorate the sacrifices made by Jews fleeing Egypt in the 13th century BCE, according to TastingTable contributor Lauren Rothman.

However, eating matzo everyday can get redundant, so cooking it in different ways keeps things fresh.

Matzo brei is often made with sheets soaked in egg, then fried and topped with ingredients such as mushrooms, onions, cinnamon, and sugar.

Hymie’s lets customers choose to have their matzo scrambled or made in pancake style. The deli is also popular for its Reubens, which have been named the best in the country.
