The incoming CEO of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network in Plymouth Meeting was promoted from within the organization, writes Paul Schwedelson for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Dr. Crystal S. Denlinger will succeed Dr. Robert W. Carlson who is retiring. Denlinger will take the reins on October 9.

She has been National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s senior vice president and chief scientific officer since January 2021.

Denlinger, a medical oncologist who specializes in gastrointestinal cancers, has been treating patients at Temple Health’s Fox Chase Center for almost 20 years. In 2012 she was a National Comprehensive Cancer Network Young Awardee, and in 2018 she was given the organization’s Rodger Winn Award for her commitment to developing the organization’s clinical practice guidelines in oncology.

Before being offered a full-time job with the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, Denlinger had already been thinking that a leadership position in the organization would be the perfect next step.

“When Dr. Carlson approached me about joining in mid-2020, it was a natural fit,” she said. “I always believed in this organization and in the importance of guidelines. I couldn’t say no. It was a dream opportunity.”
