A Montgomery County School Is Renamed in Honor of Trailblazing Teacher

Gotwals Elementary in Norristown has been renamed Davenport Elementary in honor of Alice Davenport, the first black teacher in Norristown, writes CBS News Philadelphia staff.

Her story is not just about what she achieved, but how she has inspired others, Montgomery County officials said.

Davenport passed away earlier this year. The school will help keep her legacy alive.
