Norristown Officials Hope to Bring Story Path Initiative to Two Parks
Norristown officials are working on implementing the Story Path Pilot Program at two municipal parks – Guardino and Scag Cottman, writes Rachel Ravina for the Main Line Times & Suburban.
The initiative would post signs throughout the parks with pages of a children’s book shown on them.
“When people go to parks, it’s usually the same old, but this is also bringing in really the younger folks (when) they’re just learning, they’re starting their educational experience,” said Planning and Municipal Development Director Jayne Musonye.
“I thought what a smart way of getting their education in, and exercising at the same time, and this is bringing families together.”
The initiative was originally proposed by Council Vice President Heather Lewis, who saw a similar concept while visiting a park in Ardmore with her grandchildren.
And while it was not a quick process, the program was unanimously authorized at a June 20 council work session.
The content at the two parks will be aimed at children in kindergarten through sixth grades. The parks will include an entrance sign along with 20 Story Path stations.
