For Curt Kopicki, a local ska fan, it is the thought behind his kids’ Father’s Day gift that matters the most. Not the gift itself.

Even if it is a tie —the tenth one they have given him for Father’s Day, writes Dan Bookbinder for The Hard Times.

“I’m not a scotch-drinking, barbecuing, golfing fisherman, so Father’s Day gift options are limited,” said Kopicki who lives in Bala Cynwyd.

“But the kids got me a checkerboard tie, you can never have enough of those. Classic. It’s going to go perfectly with my checkerboard suspenders, checkerboard Vans, and checkerboard trilby hat. I think I’ll make the tie’s debut at the Supernova Ska Festival!”

His kids were happy that the gift garnered such a great response even though they had not put that much thought into it. The tie was on discount at Kohl’s.

Their other gift was much more specific, and it earned them a few happy tears shed by their father. They got him a t-shirt that read “World’s Greatest Ska Fan.”
