Pros and Cons of a Summer Job Search

While many people like to wind down during the summer, it can also be an advantageous time to start your job search. However, there are still roadblocks you can hit during the slower months. Here are the pros and cons of a summer job search, according to FlexJobs.

Pro: Less Competition

Con: Slower Hiring Process

Since more people are taking vacations during the warmer months, there are fewer people applying for jobs. On the flip side, the job process may take a bit slower, especially if hiring managers are on vacation.

Pro: You Have More Free Time

Con: You Don’t Actually Have Free Time

While your 9-5 may be winding down, you have a lot more time to peruse job boards. However, you might be super busy with taking kids to summer camp, going on vacations, or doing volunteer work. There are only so many hours in a day, even if the days are longer.

Pro: Jobs Are Available

Con: They May Not Fit Your Criteria

There may be plenty of job openings in companies that are looking to hire recent graduates or interns. However, the positions may not fit the criteria of what you want. Plenty of jobs are available during the summer, but they are also seasonal or temporary.
