Montgomery County hosted multiple stops on the famous Schuylkill River Sojourn. The three-day 112-mile trip involved hundreds of people paddling in their kayaks and canoes from Schuylkill Haven in Schuylkill County to Boathouse Row.
About 250 people signed up, and 50 committed to doing the entire trek. Along with Pottstown, stops were also in Royersford, and West Conshohocken writes Steven Henshaw for the Reading Eagle.
About 175 paddlers are doing this for the first time. It is the 25th anniversary of Schuylkill River Greenways hosting this three-day event. This year’s theme is all about making connections.
“Our mission, in everything we do, is to connect people and communities to the Schuylkill River,” said Elaine Schaefer, the executive director of Schuylkill River Greenways. “Once people make a personal connection to the river, they understand its importance and are motivated to preserve and protect it.”
