North Penn High School senior Julia Shearer, the University of Maryland commit, is the 2022-23 Gatorade Pennsylvania Softball Player of the Year, writes Ed Morlock for the PA Prep Live.

Shearer learned she had been awarded the prestigious title after she finished her Advanced Placement Statistics final last week. She checked her phone and found many missed calls and texts that started with “Congratulations.”

“It just feels great because I have such a great support system with my family and my coaches and my teammates,” said Shearer. “Everyone is there for me and they’re supporting me every step of the way.”

This is the second consecutive title for the talented player.

“Last year I didn’t really have any goals as far as Gatorade, it just kind of happened,” she said. “This year I figured out what I was capable of. I knew what I was going for.”

Shearer has had an amazing season. She entered last week’s PIAA-6A state quarterfinal, which her team won over Hazleton, with a 25-0 record and 0.23 ERA in 153 innings. She also struck out 323 batters to 13 walks. Her batting average was .645.
