If you’re likable at your workplace, there’s a chance you already know. However, if the opposite is true, there’s a chance you may be totally oblivious to being the office jerk. That’s because, according to a study cited in The Wall Street Journal, humans are less likely to give negative or critical feedback. While your coworkers may not give you the heads up, here’s how to tell if you’re the office jerk.

Know Being a Jerk Comes in All Forms

While there are universal ways of being a jerk such as stealing and lying there are other less acknowledged acts of jerkiness.

Being judgmental or overreacting are also considered jerky.

Don’t Wait for Feedback

Asking for honest advice is a more likely way to receive critical feedback on your behaviors. When you do ask for feedback, make sure it’s in regard to specific actions, and not who you are overall as a person.

Ask for Ideal Behavior

Make sure you ask your coworkers what their idea of “ideal behavior” is so you know how to replicate it in the workplace. Try to implement those behaviors in your day-to-day life at work and be sincedre about making a change.
