Jose Garces’ Amada in Radnor Offers a Thoughtful Menu of its ‘Greatest Hits’
Almost 20 years after he opened the original Amada on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, Jose Garces has launched a new location in Radnor, Pennsylvania, writes Jason Sheehan for Philadelphia Magazine.
The latest spot, which can sit 250 people, offers a menu that Sheehan calls “surprisingly thoughtful and shamelessly nostalgic”. It is a mix of all of Amada’s greatest hits.
You can order a roast suckling pig if you give the kitchen 72 hours’ notice and there are plenty of Amada’s original tapas on the menu.
There is also a new “a la plancha” section, a term which means grilled on a plate. The new location has plenty of room for charcoal grills to cook up Ibérico pork tenderloin and Wagyu skirt steaks.
The design of the restaurant is a return to Garces’ vision of Spain with its dark woods, oxblood banquettes and hanging light fixtures that look like candelabras. There is even a rotary slicer on a butcher-block table in the middle of the dining room.
Guests can also enjoy a roaming gin-and-tonic-cart and a glassed-in-terrarium patio.
