Hannah Gao — soon to be a Harriton High School graduate — was named a U.S. 2023 Presidential Scholar. Gao, of Wynnewood, was one of only 161 honorees from a nationwide field of 5,000 qualifying students.
The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars recognizes students for:
- Academic success
- Artistic and technical excellence
- Essays
- School evaluations and transcripts
- Community service
- Leadership
“U.S. Presidential Scholars have always represented the future of our country and the bright promise it holds. I want each of these remarkable students to know: Your passion and intellect, pursuit of excellence, and spirit of service are exactly what our country needs,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.
As directed by Presidential Executive Order, the 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars include one male and female from each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and U.S. families living abroad.
Created in 1964, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program has honored over 8,000 of the nation’s top-performing students in its nearly 60-year history.
A complete list of 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars is available from the U.S. Department of Education.
