The Philadelphia International Airport is projecting a 12 percent increase in summer travel passengers, with more than 4 million expected to leave from the airport from June through August, writes Emma Dooling for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The airport is estimating an even split of passengers over the three months, with 1.31 million departing in June, 1.36 million in July, and 1.38 million in August.

Passenger growth is up by 400,000 departures compared to the same period in 2022.

The loosening of travel restrictions after the pandemic and a strong U.S. dollar are fueling the air travel increase.

The airport also projects an 8.5 percent increase in the number of flights out of Philadelphia and a 10.7 percent in seats this summer over last year.

PHL summer travel numbers have yet to beat its record-breaking numbers from 2019 when it saw 4.69 million summer travelers and nearly 34 million total passengers that year.

It will take a few more years before PHL is back to pre-pandemic levels.

Greeting passengers in Terminal E is the new Good Luck Pizza Co. and ROAM Fitness, an airport gym and wellness center.

The airport has also nearly doubled the capacity of its economy parking lot to 3,00 spaces.
