The media attention afforded the Delaware County pizza deliverer who tripped an escaping suspect is certainly warranted. However, according to a KYW Newsradio staff report, he’s not the only suburban hero assisting local law enforcement efforts.

Villanova University senior Phil Sandor was in traffic recently on Lancaster Avenue when local police officer Kyle Hand pulled over a nearby motorist.

When Hand accessed the data on the vehicle’s operator, it revealed a number of criminal warrants in several jurisdictions for the Coatesville resident.

Realizing the trouble he was facing, that driver exited his car on the road and fled.

He hopped the electrified tracks of the Norristown High Speed Line.

Sandor witnessed the escape and offered to drive Officer Hand across the railway.

Hand accepted. And the speedy transport to the other side resulted in the escapee’s capture.

In the ensuing days, the area police department recognized Sandor with a certification of appreciation, calling his ride an “act of valuable community service.”

A Facebook post announcing the honor read: “If the [Villanova] finance degree doesn’t work out, we are always looking for good officers.”

The complete Phil Sandor hero story is at KYW Newsradio.
