Montgomery County officials are holding meetings and conducting surveys with the community to best assess how to spend the $7 million federal COVID-19 relief dollars.

The money is part of the American Rescue Plan to fund the Norristown Community Facilities Project. A May 10 session with the community touched upon using the money for a “community services and recreation” facility, wrote Rachel Ravina for The Times Herald.

A publicized survey, with 321 respondents, revealed that community members want to see facilities used for arts and culture, nonprofits, food distribution, education, or fitness.

Residents also expressed accessibility for people who speak Spanish as well as the involvement of Norristown Area School District in the facilities project.

Others expressed the importance of involving Norristown youth.

The next step is for officials to select consultants to oversee work on physical spaces and programs by June. Assessing local inventory is expected to be done by August.

The next meeting for residents to attend will be in-person on June 14.
