For Narberth songwriter Lizzy McAlpine, it does not take much to walk away from an unfinished idea for a song, reported Stephen Kallao for WXPN.
“If it doesn’t happen in like an hour, then it’s not meant to happen at all,” she said.
The Lower Merion High School graduate applied this intuitive approach to her star-making second album, five seconds flat, with great success. It took her just two months to write and record the full story of a relationship that ended. Her lyrics resonated with people, and her fan base quickly grew.
One of the tracks from the album, Ceilings, went viral on TikTok and went on to rack up over 200 million streams on Spotify.
That was not the first time McAlpine had managed to pique the interest of audiences on social media. In 2020, a snippet of a demo called You Ruined the 1975 that she uploaded to TikTok was viewed millions of times.
Today, McAlpine is on her first road trip, called The End of The Movie Tour, and she has sold out most of the venues.
