These Two Montgomery County Towns Are Ranked the Best Places to Live If You’re 55 or Older

Collegeville was one of two Montgomery County towns ranked as ideal Pennsylvania towns for people who are 55 years and older to live in.

Insider Monkey just released a list of Pennsylvania’s best towns for residents age 55 and over. Two of its recommended sites are in Montgomery County.  

The list ranked towns on a score-based system, with 10 points per category for such details as:

  • Cost of living
  • Climate
  • Population
  • Household income
  • Commute time
  • Crime rate
  • Home value
  • Health insurance
  • Recreational activities

Collegeville ranked No. 11 on the best towns list, with a total score of 23.

It earned its spot for having top hospitals nearby, such as Phoenixville Hospital, Einstein Medical Center, and Lankenau Medical Center (whose true distance may have been unknown to Insider Monkey editors).

It’s also known for plenty of scenic trails and parks such as Perkiomen Trail and Evansburg State Park.

The town also earned its ranking for being home to the esteemed liberal arts school Ursinus College.  

Penn Wynne bested Collegeville by two list spots, coming in at No. 9 with a score of 28.

Its proximity to medical centers such as Bryn Mawr and Paoli Hospitals an abundance of outdoor areas earned the town its recommendation. Penn Wynne is also accessible to the I-76 and I-476 highways.

The township also has historic ties to the American Revolution.
