Norristown Police Sgt. Bill Tims retired this week after nearly four decades of protecting and serving residents of Norristown, wrote Cheryl Kehoe Rodgers for The Times Herald.

For the majority of his decorated 38-year career, Tims worked the midnight shift. As a tribute to the veteran officer, his final call was given early on Saturday by Montgomery County dispatcher Tori Rosa, who is the widow of Norristown Police Officer Ron Rosa. Officer Rosa was Tims’ partner and best friend who died from a congenital heart condition in 2005.

“It is with great honor and respect that we come together to recognize the distinguished career of Sgt. William Tims,” said a Norristown Police Department spokesperson. “After 38 years of unwavering dedication to the Norristown Police Department, Sgt. Tims has ended his watch, leaving a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire us all.”

Tims graduated from Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before attending West Chester University. He also completed coursework with the Montgomery County Community College Police Academy. Before joining Norristown’s ranks, he briefly served with Conshohocken Police Department.

Throughout his career, he was recognized with numerous distinctions, such as Valley Forge Optimist Respect for Law award and Norristown’s Above and Beyond award.
