Pottstown’s ‘Team DUI’ Commits to Making Roadways Safer in April

Pottstown's Team DUI will be stopping cars over the next handful of days to ensure drivers are free of the influences of substances that include alcohol.

A multi-jurisdictional enforcement team will be setting up driver checkpoints in the Pottstown area over the next several days. The initiative — branded Team DUI — is designed to keep commuters and pedestrians safe, as reported in the Daily Local News.

The most visible, and important, aspect of the program are the sobriety checkpoints its law-enforcement representatives are using.

Team DUI will use the outposts to confirm that drivers are following the rules of the road. Officers will be particularly watching for unsafe and illegal instances of:

  • Failure to use seat belts for not only the vehicle operator but all passengers
  • Speeding
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, especially by minors
  • Driving distractedly, such as while texting or talking on a phone

Confirmation of vehicle operation by drivers ignoring these and other laws of the road will result in appropriate tickets.

Addressing one of the most significant focus points for Team DUI, its leaders underscore the importance of identifying a designated driver before consuming alcohol on an outing that requires someone getting behind the wheel afterward.

Further detail on this period of safety-inspired highway/roadway scrutiny is at the Daily Local News.

Albeit nothing really new, this video nonetheless explains why alcohol and driving is so mortally dangerous.
