Manatawny Still Works, a Pottstown distillery, has again extended its reach with a new tasting room in Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood. Ali Mohsen poured forth its particulars in Billy Penn’s coverage.

The Lee Street bar features a casual vibe: brick walls; high, metal tables and stools, and a wooden counter. It seats about 50 patrons at a time, including sidewalk spots out front.

The section of the city is drawing several similar businesses, leading the Pottstownians to develop ways of distinguishing themselves.

“We’re not making the same whiskey everyone else is,” said head distiller Max Pfeffer, citing his use of a four-grain mixture with no corn. A variety of wines and beers augments the cocktail menu.

Two favorite mixed drinks are already emerging as favorites:

  • Something to Talk About:
    • American gold rum, passion fruit, orgeat (a sweet, almond syrup), and lime
  • Tubthumping:
    • Oat milk, cold brew, chocolate bitters, and a coffee whiskey

There’s no onsite food yet, but the proprietors are okay with guests bringing takeout from retail kitchens in the neighborhood.

Jay Kosek, Manatawny’s director of brand operations, said, “No matter who you are or what you like to drink, we have a seat for you at the bar with a cocktail you’ll enjoy.”

Additional shots of information on Manatawny Still Works in Fishtown is at Billy Penn.
