Author Lorrie Kim, a Bryn Mawr College graduate, who has been Judy Blume’s pen pal for the past 45 years, will be featured in the new documentary on the author of Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret, reported Bedatri D. Choudhury for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Kim discovered Blume’s books in fourth grade when she admittedly “… had no idea what menstruation or sex or anything like that was.”

After reading the 1970 novel, she decided to write Blume a letter.

“I just wrote down everything that I wanted to ask her,” said Kim. “No one had taught me that you couldn’t write to an author … so I was sending a letter out into the void.”

The famous author wrote back, and two have not stopped writing to each other ever since. Blume was even at Kim’s college graduation.

Kim and her letters are prominently featured in Judy Blume Forever, a documentary directed by Leah Wolchok and Davina Pardo. The film was shown recently at the Philadelphia Film Society SpringFest, and it will be released on Amazon Prime on Apr. 21.
