Philadelphia-based Backyard Eats helped Jeff and Liz Podraza of Wyndmoor build a home vegetable garden, reported Zoe Greenberg for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
While the Podrazas plan to plant the garden themselves, the city-based advisory company also maintains, waters, and even picks kitchen vegetables for their other clients.
Backyard Eats’ services are in especial high demand from perfectionists, foodies, and those who are nostalgic about their old family gardens. People who have the money but do not have time are also among the company’s clients.
“People have that feeling of growing their own food,” said Mike Bennett, the company’s operations manager. “We’re providing the feeling without all the potential frustrations. To the extent they have time to devote to it, they can just go out there with their child to a perfectly clean garden where everything’s successful and just have fun.”
For 2023, the company expects to build around 80 raised beds as well as plant 115 backyard gardens in Philadelphia and the suburbs, including Montgomery County.
The interest in gardening skyrocketed during the pandemic. And even though some people are returning to their normal lives, the need for Backyard Eats’ services is still there and remains as strong as ever.
