“I’m an excellent communicator”  

While employers value communication, you need evidence to back up these proclamations. Instead of uttering a clichè, use an example of a time that you’ve effectively and efficiently communicated with your peers.  

“I have strong organization skills” 

Fisher suggests replacing this bland claim with evidence that, as manager, speaks to your skill. Having a hard copy of a performance review is a surefire way to gain the trust of your interviewer.  

“I’m good in a crisis”  

Instead of over-generalizing your ability to navigate rough waters, provide an example of when you were able to handle a stressful situation.  

“People feel comfortable around me” 

Demonstrate how your social skills were able to help your team, instead of making blanket statements.  

“I have great networking skills” 

This old chestnut isn’t going to impress your interviewers. Instead talk more about the strong relationships in your personal life, because it’s more of an accurate demonstration of your character.
