The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office recently recognized 16 officers for life-saving efforts in 2022. Oscar Gamble, for The Mercury, covered the visible thanks given to these public servants in Norristown.

Sheriff Sean Kilkenny began by recognizing the families of his honored personnel. “We appreciate the sacrifices you make that allow us to perform at the highest levels of integrity and professionalism,” he said.

The commendations for 2022 service centered around three, high-profile incidents:

  • A Jul. 4 firearm injury at Philadelphia’s Independence Day celebration. The victim in that case, Sheriff’s Deputy John Foster received the Purple Heart. Three law-enforcement officers who aided him were also commended
  • The Sept. 15 explosive device accident at SCI Phoenix in Collegeville. Ten heroes were honored for responsiveness
  • A Nov. 8 gun incident in Norristown, in which Deputy Cody Brockmeyer’s use of a tourniquet on a victim was noted as a life-saving measure

“I could not be prouder of the way these recipients and their support teams banded together to render aid to their fellow officers in the midst of difficult and dangerous situations — as well as their commitment to public safety, their profession, and each other,” Kilkennny said.
