Montgomery County Community College is inviting applications for the Part-time Recovery Specialist position.

The Part-time Recovery Specialist will provide support services, mentorship,
and advocacy for persons in recovery from a substance use disorder or who are contemplating the recovery process.

This individual will facilitate weekly recovery support groups for Montco students
campus-wide.

It will be essential for this person to develop a peer relationship with the recovering
person and to role model positive behaviors and attitudes.

The Recovery Specialist will be skilled at developing supportive and authentic relationships, maintaining ethical and professional boundaries, and respecting each individual’s unique path to recovery.

This is position is temporary and grant-funded. The expected end
date for this grant is Dec. 30, 2023.

The position will be primarily located at the Pottstown campus, with occasional travel to the Blue Bell campus. Hours are up to 25 hours per week.

This position requires the new hire to submit the PA Child Abuse clearance, the PA State Police
clearance, and the FBI Fingerprint results, prior to their first day of employment.

The selected applicant should have the following experience and skills:

Education/Training/Work Experience

  • Must have a high school diploma/G.E.D.
  • Acquired or meet the qualifications for certification as a Certified Recovery Specialist, e.g. Addictions Certificate
  • Strong youth engagement and positive youth development skills
  • Familiarity with Montgomery County recovery community
  • Personal commitment to advocating for and being a role model for students

Specialized Knowledge & Skills:

  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with students, administration, faculty, and the community at large
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to function in peer-to-peer learning environment
  • Skills in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
  • Understanding of relevant regulatory issues including HIPAA and FERPA
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and ability to communicate and interact effectively with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal contacts, and to always maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions
  • Ability to be optimistic, positive, and supportive in interactions with others
