The 2023 list of honorees at the Philadelphia Flower Show included recognition of the work of students and faculty at Lakeside School greenhouse in North Wales. The news came from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS).

Lakeside School provides a “…therapeutic learning approach that balances both support and nurture,” reads its online description. It seeks to bolster students with emotional needs to return to traditional schooling, graduate, and move forward to a degree, vocation, or service in the military.

The flower show honor was for its greenhouse, which earned a PHS gold medal. The entry, titled “What’s Your Color?” sought to energize the artistic spirit of judges and attendees with intensity and excitement.

The award recognized the students exceptional execution of:

  • Design
  • Horticultural excellence
  • Construction
  • Craftsmanship
  • Educational value

The Lakeside School greenhouse gives students the twin benefits of knowledge and therapy in the specific discipline of horticulture. They develop knowledge, skill, and pride in caring for plants in the 5,000 sq. ft. greenhouse.

Many of the bushes and flowers grown there eventually find their way to the school’s 50-acre main campus in nearby Horsham.

More detail on Lakeside School Greenhouse and the other 2023 Philadelphia Flower Show winners is at the PHS website.
