Millennial preferences for online furniture shopping rest with Conshohocken's IKEA.

Not since perhaps the Baby Boomers has a generational segment had as much economic, social, and political influence as Millennials. Major brands have found much success in courting this demographic and its income. Joanne Frederick, in Home Accents Today, focused on one industry leader that’s proven particularly adept at it: IKEA.

Frederick reported that Millennial purchasers of just about anything — including furniture — want two conveniences: online shopping and home delivery.

Aside that, the members of this market segment prioritize:

  • High quality of goods
  • Low price
  • Low shipping costs

Further down the wish list are convenience, selection, and product availability.

The furniture/home décor sector is hot for these purchasers with good cause. Millennials responded at a rate of 47 percent that they update a room at least annually. And 27 percent overhaul a space every few years.

IKEA, with its large online presence and Conshohocken showroom, topped the list of favorite brands.

The rest of the list included Ashley (nine percent), Wayfair (three percent), La-Z-Boy (two percent), and Bob’s Discount Furniture/Crate & Barrel (less than one percent).

IKEA was also the top-vote in answer to the question, Which retailer best serves your needs?

More on Ikea and its appeal to Millennials is at Home Accents Today.
